When I was pregnant with Roan my Mom kept funneling in hand-made receiving blankets. I thought it was a bit excessive until baby came and we were actually using more than two daily and the laundry was piling up.
All caught up in quilting I forget about simple uses for fabric I love. The dala horse fabric was perfect for making my Swedish friend a baby shower gift and the Anna Maria Horner voile is not only soft and wide, but also on sale all over the place. A receiving blanket provides that sweet gratification of matching fabrics too. The color match was perfect. I generally go three pack when making these, but another quilt is on the way.
What’s your favorite quick baby gift?

It’s been ages since I needed to sew baby gifts. What size do you make the receiving blankets? Are they simply 2 pieces of fabric sewn and turned?
I go 1 yard and a quarter. This makes a nice size. Yes, two pieces together and turned. I add a topstitch to finish.
I love wholecloth baby quilts! Sometimes I can’t bear to cut up the fabric and with these I don’t have to!
As someone with a five week old baby, I can also say that store receiving blankets are too small! This one is lovely.
I couldn’t agree more. I like my baby quilts a nice size too.
Yes, bigger is totally better for receiving blankets. This one is going to be very special – very lux!
My favourite baby gift is food! But I am on deck to finish up three baby quilts in the coming weeks. Two baby girls born this past weekend!
I love an excuse to start a new quilt (or two). xo
My go-to baby gifts are patchwork bibs or baprons OR fabric-accented & bound burp clothes OR a roll-up changing pad. Or a combo of course!
Pretty! Wanted to let you know I nominated you for three awards.

Love the fabrics on this one! Best baby gift I got and like to give is home cooked meal. But a quilt is always nice!
That’s a good idea! Freezer friendly might do.
Love the fabrics you used on this one! This is my favorite handmade gift to give for new babies
